Veteran Grower, Andrew Israelsen, Wins His 2nd Wiegh-Off with a 1608 Lb. Pumpkin
The crowd at Thanksgiving Point went wild when Andrew Israelsen's pumpkin topped the scales at 1608. Andrew has been growing pumpkins for over 20 years and this was the 2nd time he has taken top honor. His first UGPG win was in 2009, weighing in at 919 lbs. The current club record holder for the most 2nd place finishes, he is excited to get a first place win once again.
Andrew's pumpkin was grown from the 2170 Daletas seed. Andrew brought his first pumpkin to a UGPG wiegh-off in 1999 and it weighed in at 153 lbs. This pumpkin is a new personal best for Andrew, beating out the 1246 he grew in 2014 by a whopping 362 lbs. He currently stands at 2nd place on Utah's heavy hitter list.
